Rich, creamy hot chocolate is the perfect treat to embrace the colder months, creating a comforting and delicious start to the season. Whether you're relaxing by the fire, gathering with family, or simply unwinding after a long day, hot chocolate milk with a touch of whipped cream or marshmallows can make every moment special. Embrace the sweetness and indulge in the ultimate chocolate drink that’s guaranteed to warm both heart and home.
Why are we talking about Chocomel you ask?
Because Friday is Recipe Day and since Sir Hans Sloane invented Chocomel or Chocolate Milk, the true purpose of the drink has never been discovered. This drink was originally used as a medicinal drink to fight against the cold mixed with some spices. Cinnamon played a major role owing to its antibiotic properties which was useful in the cold. It wasn't until the The Cadbury Brothers, that the drink was commercialized all across UK and Europe.
For this blog, we have a unique recipe of Chocomel that you can enjoy this winter.
Salted Speculaas Chocomel using an Electric Milk Frother
Ingredients:
- 200 ml whole milk (or any milk of choice)
- 50 ml Chocomel (chocolate milk)
- 1 tsp speculaas spice mix (or pumpkin spice mix). You can also ground some Speculaas cookies and add them.
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp brown sugar or maple syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)
- Whipped cream (optional, for topping)
- Crushed speculaas cookies (for garnish)
Instructions:
Warm the Milk: Pour the whole milk into a microwave-safe cup or pot and gently heat it until warm (don’t boil). If your milk frother is microwave-safe, you can heat it directly there.
Add Flavors: Stir in the Chocomel, speculaas spice, and a pinch of sea salt. Add brown sugar or maple syrup if you like your drink extra sweet.
Froth the Mixture: Pour the spiced chocolate milk into the electric milk frother. Froth until creamy and thick, allowing the flavors to blend.
Serve and Garnish: Pour the frothed Chocomel into a mug, top with a dollop of whipped cream, and sprinkle crushed speculaas cookies for an added festive crunch.
Enjoy: Sip and savor the salted speculaas flavors as a perfect cozy treat for the season!
That's an interesting combination!

Is chocolate milk good for health?
Chocolate milk can be good for health when consumed in moderation. It provides essential nutrients like calcium, protein, and vitamin D, which support bone health and muscle recovery, especially after exercise. The combination of carbs and protein makes chocolate milk a popular post-workout drink, aiding muscle repair and energy replenishment. However, chocolate milk also contains added sugars and fats, which, if consumed excessively, can impact weight and metabolic health. For those sensitive to lactose, lactose-free options or plant-based chocolate milk can be gentler on digestion. Overall, chocolate milk can be a nutritious choice when balanced within a healthy diet.
